My Story

From my early fascination with psychology to becoming a devoted counsellor, my journey has been fueled by a passion for empowering others to thrive and grow. I always feel privileged to be a counselor, getting to accompany people from all walks of life, earning their trust, and witnessing their transformative journeys. Psychology and counselling are not just professions to me—they have been lifelines during my own struggles. They have given me the tools to overcome challenges, and I am glad to use that experience to connect with and support others on their own paths to healing and hope.

Ever since high school, I have been captivated by psychology. Observing people and pondering the reasons behind their actions always fascinated me. That is why I pursued psychology as my major during my bachelor’s degree. I was drawn to its scientific approach
to understanding the complexities of the human mind. Having completed my bachelor’s degree, I wanted to specialize in clinical psychology as I was driven by the desire to help individuals navigate their struggles and make positive changes in their lives. After earning my masters degree, I became a Registered Clinical Psychologist in Hong Kong in 2002.

Over the years, working closely with clients has been immensely rewarding. Each person’s unique journey has been a source of inspiration for me. Witnessing their resilience and progress, whether it is a smile returning to their face or a newfound glimpse of hope, fuels
my passion for this field. Additionally, I have found that the insights gained from my clients and psychology studies have been invaluable in overcoming my own challenges in life as well.

Now, I am excited to bring my expertise to Canada as a Registered Clinical Counsellor. I believe in the importance of staying adaptable in the ever-evolving landscape of mental health. My aim is to blend my years of experience with sensitivity to the local culture to support individuals in their journey towards well-being.

My journey with psychology began during my high school years and has remained a constant passion ever since. After earning my bachelor’s degree in psychology, I furthered my education by pursuing a master’s in clinical psychology at the University of Hong Kong,
following a year of work in psychiatric research.

Upon graduation, I embarked on a fulfilling career as a Registered Clinical Psychologist in Hong Kong, serving at psychological service centers within two prominent non-government organizations. Over the last two decades, my clinical expertise has evolved, encompassing diagnostic assessments across age groups, psychosocial evaluations, and interventions for a wide array of issues, including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, life transitions, trauma, and relationship difficulties. I have also received extensive training in evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR), Hypnotic Therapy, and Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP). Additionally, my certification in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) equips
me to provide vital support to individuals and groups during acute crises. I have also facilitated group therapy sessions, conducted educational workshops, and delivered professional training programs throughout my work.

In my pursuit of continuous growth and diversification within the field, I recently completed a master’s program in industrial and organizational psychology at Adler University in Vancouver. This additional qualification has provided me with a broader perspective on
individual well-being within the workplace.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, I am proficient in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, enabling me to provide counselling services in all three languages. Growing up in a city where Western and Chinese cultures intertwine has allowed me to embrace diversity and
appreciate various perspectives. Having immigrated to Vancouver two years ago, I understand firsthand the joys and challenges of starting anew in a foreign country. This personal experience allows me to empathize deeply with fellow immigrants and their journey of adaptation.

As a Chinese parent myself, I am attuned to the cultural beliefs and parenting styles prevalent in Asian communities and recognize the interplay between these values and the local context. I approach my practice with an open mind and non-judgmental attitude. I firmly believe that everyone deserves access to mental wellness and fulfillment, irrespective of their backgrounds, social status, or any other defining factors. My goal is to create a safe and inclusive space where individuals can explore their innermost thoughts and emotions and embark on a journey towards holistic well-being.

Many of my clients have described me as an empathetic, compassionate, and gentle counsellor, often forming strong therapeutic bonds with me from the very start. I have a genuine curiosity about my clients and approach each encounter without judgment. My goal
is to foster a collaborative therapeutic relationship where clients feel empowered to make their own decisions and set their own pace. While I offer suggestions and advice based on my professional expertise, I prioritize the individual’s autonomy.

I strive to facilitate deep self-understanding, ignite motivation for change, and introduce new coping skills to promote well-being. Whether celebrating successes or navigating setbacks, my aim is to support clients in becoming more empowered, confident, and self-sufficient by
the end of our therapy journey together.

When working with children and adolescents, I customize each session to suit their individual needs and developmental stages. Additionally, I actively engage parents, caregivers, and other significant figures as needed to gain a comprehensive understanding
of the child’s situation. This collaborative approach ensures a holistic perspective, allowing me to provide interventions that address children’s well-being accurately.

Throughout my practice in Hong Kong, working with children, teenagers, and their families has been a significant focus of my work. I have accumulated extensive experience and expertise in this area, particularly through my training in child psychology and play therapy
and my involvement in parenting education and interventions.

One aspect that I have found particularly rewarding is my ability to connect with teenage clients. My lively and approachable demeanor allows me to establish rapport easily, fostering a positive therapeutic environment for adolescents. I have also had the privilege of
working with families from diverse backgrounds, such as single-parent households and blended families.

As a mother of two teenagers myself, I deeply empathize with the joys and challenges of parenting. My experience allows me to better understand and meet the needs of both my own children and those I work with professionally. Each interaction enriches my practice
and reinforces my commitment to supporting families in their journey toward growth and well-being.

My favorite pastimes include spending quality time with my family and friends, indulging in playing the piano and immersing myself in nature through hiking. I was a trained guide in ecotourism and geo-tourism while I was in Hong Kong, which further deepened my appreciation for the natural world.

I find solace and joy in listening to music, and I particularly enjoy watching shows, with a special fondness for the choir and dance performances. Recently, I have developed a newfound interest in forest bathing, finding peace and rejuvenation in the serene embrace
of the forest.
