- Examine the underlying motivations and sources, including family upbringing, societal influences, and personal beliefs.
The Costs of Perfectionism
- Analyze perfectionism's negative effects on emotions (e.g., anxiety, self-criticism), behavior (e.g., procrastination, overexertion), and interpersonal relationships.

Questions About Working on Perfectionism
Isn't perfectionism just having high standards — why would that need therapy?
High standards and perfectionism aren’t quite the same thing. Perfectionism usually comes with a harsher edge — fear of failure, all-or-nothing thinking, or feeling like you’re never quite good enough no matter what you accomplish. This program is about keeping the parts that serve you while loosening the grip of the parts that don’t.
Will this make me lower my standards or stop caring about doing well?
No — the goal isn’t to care less, it’s to reduce the anxiety, self-criticism, and burnout that often come with perfectionism so you can keep pursuing things you care about without it costing you your peace of mind. Plenty of people come out the other side just as driven, with a lot less self-punishment attached to it.
Is this only about perfectionism at work, or does it cover relationships and personal life too?
It covers both. The program looks at high expectations you might hold for yourself and for other people, so it applies just as much to relationships, parenting, or personal life as it does to work and school.
Is this program covered by insurance?
Yes, we offer direct billing with most major Canadian insurance providers, including Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, and Pacific Blue Cross — the same coverage available across our other services.
What happens after the three sessions if old patterns start creeping back?
That’s normal — perfectionism tends to be a long-practiced habit, so it doesn’t always disappear completely in three sessions. You’ll leave with a personalized action plan and tools to reinforce what you’ve learned, and you’re welcome to return to ongoing individual counselling if you want more support down the line.
How is this different from bringing up perfectionism in regular individual counselling?
Perfectionism often comes up as one thread within broader, open-ended individual counselling. This program is different in that it’s entirely dedicated to it — a focused three-session structure built specifically around understanding, regulating, and shifting perfectionistic patterns, rather than being one topic among many.
