My Story

Since childhood, I have been fascinated by science and religion, intrigued by the meaning of life and human life experiences.

In order to become a better helping professional, I began my Master’s studies in Social Work in 2016. In my social work practice, I have provided counselling to various communities, and have conducted in-depth learning on grief counselling, hypnotherapy, trauma healing and supporting the LGBTQ2I+ community. I am dedicated to healing feelings of loss, isolation, rejection, and unworthiness.

In the darkness, there is always a glimmer of light.

I completed my social work internship at a counselling agency in Toronto. During this internship, I learned how to grow as a helpful therapist. To me, this career is deeply meaningful for my soul and is the reason why I became a therapist. I continue to educate myself through continuous improvement, practicing counselling skills, and learning from my colleagues in the field, which brings me joy and purpose.

I feel that a light always shines down on me when I hear past clients mention that counselling has helped them grow and face challenges. I have always had a fondness for counselling work because it makes a real difference in someone’s life.

I have also experienced trauma and emotional lows myself. With the help of counsellors, I have gradually learned how to accept, care for, and be kinder towards myself. I hope to use my experiences, counselling skills, and empathy to accompany more people through the darker days.

After graduating from my undergraduate studies, I began working at a social welfare organization and continued my education. I obtained a Master’s degree in Social Work from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, graduating with honors on the Dean’s List. To further deepen my expertise in counseling, I obtained the qualification of Certified Hypnotherapist from The Professional Board of Hypnotherapy & The National Guild of Hypnotists in 2022. Additionally, in the same year, I completed a certificate course in Singing Bowl Therapy, aiming to assist clients using different therapeutic approaches.

Growing up in Hong Kong, I have been exposed to and embraced different cultures due to my upbringing in a multicultural environment. I am fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. My parents are both from mainland China, and they always encouraged me to explore different places, cultures, and experiences. I have worked with clients from a diverse ethnic and religious background, which has further cultivated my knowledge of and appreciation for different cultures and families.

I have been a Christian since childhood, and continue to be inspired by its teachings. I have felt compelled to use my skills to help those in need, which I believe is rooted within me from the grace and love of these teachings. As I have grown, I have developed an interest in understanding different religious cultures, broadening my perspective.

In counseling, you can feel safe to share your story and experience being listened to, accepted, and encouraged. I will help you express your thoughts and emotions in various ways, facilitating reflection and learning. Together, we will find the courage and direction for change within your experiences, empowering you to become a better version of yourself.

In my past work experiences, I have encountered hundreds of bereaved families, providing grief counselling to those who have lost loved ones, including cases of illness, suicide, sudden death, spousal loss, and the loss of children. Through my work in grief counselling, I have witnessed many individuals gradually emerge from their pain, embracing, and acknowledging their losses, and transforming their longing into motivation for continued living. Although losing loved ones is painful, I am grateful that love endures.

Loneliness and longing can sometimes isolate us from others. I understand that cocooning into the sadness and anger feels safe and familiar, but I hope that if you are reading this, you know that you are not alone. I’m here with you – let’s talk. I’m here to help.

I have grown through experiences within the LGBTQ+ community, navigating through various struggles of my own, especially under societal, cultural, and religious pressures. Growing up in Hong Kong, I have experienced the difficulties of identifying as a member of the LGBTQ+ community within Chinese society. These experiences left me with dark feelings of shame and guilt, and I  questioned my own existence, my identity, and my worth in this world in my youth and young adulthood. I still clearly recall the oppression I experienced and the trauma caused by the pain of being othered.

With this personal experience, I have a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community and have a greater passion to serve this community in meaningful ways. Know that you matter even if you may feel isolated or rejected at times. Know that you are deserving of acceptance, safety, love, and nourishment. We can work together to heal your pain if you can start with booking yourself a virtual initial consultation with me, so that we can get a chance to say “Hello”. This is where it begins.

Hypnotherapy is an intervention technique used in psychotherapy with the aim of guiding individuals into their subconscious minds to understand the root causes of their issues. Combining various psychological therapeutic approaches, it helps individuals
gain insight into themselves and make changes.

In my past work and life experiences, I have used hypnotherapy to assist various individuals and have received countless positive responses. Hypnotherapy can address issues such as insomnia, relationship problems, stress management, trauma, emotional
distress, and addiction.

During the hypnosis process, you will feel relaxed and focused, engaging in conversation with the therapist while remaining conscious and aware. Before and after hypnotherapy sessions, discussions with the therapist regarding the goals and effectiveness of the treatment will take place.

Outside of work, I enjoy watching movies, Japanese anime, and reading books, covering topics such as religion, science fiction, spirituality, history, psychology, and philosophy. I feel relaxed in immersing myself in movies and books, as if entering different worlds.

When spring arrives, I begin tending to my home’s garden boxes. I find joy in gardening, as it allows me to connect with nature. Witnessing the growth of plants fills me with wonder at the marvels of nature.
