Meet Kelsey

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) who supports adults, couples, and families through challenges such as anxiety, stress, relationship conflict, cultural identity, and life transitions. My approach as a therapist is to meet individuals with warmth and compassion because I believe that healing happens in a safe, supportive, and collaborative space. Together, we can create meaningful change and help you build stronger connections with yourself and others.

My Story

I grew up in Malaysia within the Chinese community, where mental health wasn’t something we often talked about. It wasn’t until I moved to Canada that I began to learn about the importance of mental health and wellness, which sparked my curiosity and eventually led me to pursue a career in counselling.

  • I became a clinical counsellor because I want people to know that counselling doesn’t have to feel intimidating. I see it as a supportive space where anyone can explore challenges, gain new tools, and find healthier ways to move through life. I believe counselling can benefit everyone because sometimes we just need a safe, comfortable place to work through obstacles and feel truly heard.

I received my bachelor’s degree at the University of British Columbia, where I majored in Sociology and minored in Asian Language and Culture with a focus on China.

I later attended the City University of Seattle, where I received my Master of Counselling and graduated with President’s Honours.

Upon receiving my Master of Counselling, I have continued to receive training in the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy and Relational Life Therapy. My goal is to continue receiving training for different therapeutic modalities to ensure I have different tools for different clients.

I was born and raised in Malaysia. When I was 10 years old, my family moved to Vancouver, Canada, making me a first-generation Canadian immigrant. Growing up, I often struggled to make sense of my different identities. Being Chinese, Malaysian, and Canadian was difficult growing up because I didn’t know how they could all co-exist. Over time, I’ve come to appreciate how being multicultural has shaped me and taught me valuable lessons, like balancing the importance of community with the need to care for ourselves. While it is important to care for others, we need to remember that to show up for others, individuals have to be the best version of themselves first.

Because of my own experiences, I understand how complex and confusing it can feel to navigate multiple identities. I hope to support others while they are on their own journey of discovering what values align with them best.

My approach to therapy is person-centred. I want to work with clients to figure out what works best for them. As a clinical counsellor, my goal is to create a safe and supportive space where you can explore your experiences, navigate challenges, and work toward meaningful personal and relational growth. While the process can feel difficult at times, it can also be deeply rewarding.

I have worked with different therapeutic modalities, such as Gottman Method Couples Therapy,    Relational Life Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). My goal is to collaborate with each unique client to figure out which therapeutic modality and its tools align best with them.

I was born in Malaysia and moved to Canada when I was 10 years old. Having lived in different countries, I’ve come to appreciate the diversity of cultures. Through these experiences, I understand that cultures can also differ between individuals. Therefore, I always encourage individuals to share their stories with me.

As a Chinese-Canadian immigrant, I understand the hesitation some people feel about seeking    counselling, especially when mental health can still carry stigma in certain cultures. Because of this, I’m passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming space for clients from all backgrounds. My goal is to ensure that everyone who walks into therapy feels heard, understood, and empowered as they work toward meaningful change and stronger connections in their lives.

When I’m not seeing clients, I love going on walks in our beautiful city of Vancouver! Being active is a part of all my friends and family’s lives, so I am lucky enough to be able to spend time with my loved ones while being at the gym or going to a Pilates or boxing class!
