Meet Kemmy

I am a Registered Social Worker(RSW) in British Columbia who believes that healing begins when we feel truly seen, heard, and understood. As a therapist, I am passionate about psychology, mental health, and helping people. I’m here to create a safe and collaborative space for connection, reflection, and learning.
I believe every individual is the expert of their own life. I hope to help reconnect you with your inner strengths and build a life that feels authentic to you.

My Story

Growing up in Hong Kong gave me the opportunity to experience a unique blend of Chinese and Western cultures. It showed me that people often carry multiple identities, values, and expectations at the same time, making every person’s story rich and complex.
This taught me that behind every behaviour is a story, and behind every story are many different layers waiting to be understood. It sparked my curiosity about people and eventually led me to become a social worker and therapist.
Today, I continue to hold that same curiosity in my work, believing that meaningful healing begins when people feel safe enough to explore every part of themselves with compassion, rather than judgment.

I’ve always been curious about people’s stories—not just what happened to them, but how those experiences shaped the way they see themselves and relate to others.

Over the years, I’ve come to realize that many people aren’t looking for someone to solve their problems. They want a space where they can be understood without judgment. Becoming a social worker and therapist allows me to offer that space while helping people reconnect with their own strengths, resilience, and inner wisdom.

I believe meaningful healing begins when people feel truly seen, heard, and accepted.

I completed my professional training in Hong Kong, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Counselling and a Master of Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health and Health. During my graduate studies, I received structured clinical training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).

Committed to lifelong learning, I have continued to expand my clinical practice through training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), NGH Clinical Hypnotherapy, LEGO®-Based Therapy, and Narrative Drawing Intervention.

Professionally, I have experience working with children, youth, adults, and families across both public and private settings. My clinical work has included supporting individuals experiencing complex trauma, mental health challenges, substance use concerns, and developmental disabilities. Working with clients from diverse cultural, developmental, and life backgrounds has deepened my appreciation for each person’s unique story and reinforced my commitment to providing compassionate, individualized care.

I was born and raised in Hong Kong and now reside in Vancouver, Canada.

Living and working across both cultures has given me a deeper understanding of identity, belonging, family expectations, and the emotional challenges that often accompany major life transitions. I recognize that cultural values can shape how we experience emotions, navigate relationships, seek support, and make sense of ourselves.

Whether you’re navigating immigration, bicultural identity, intergenerational expectations, or simply trying to find your place, I strive to create a space where every part of your story is met with curiosity, compassion, and respect.

You can expect a warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental space where you don’t have to have everything figured out before you walk in.

Rather than giving advice or telling you what to do, we will work together to explore your experiences, understand the emotions beneath your struggles, and identify patterns that may no longer be serving you. I will walk alongside you as you discover the insights, strengths, and solutions that feel most authentic and meaningful to your life.

My approach is primarily person-centred and integrates CBT, EFT, and IFS, depending on your unique needs and goals. Together, we’ll move at a pace that feels safe while fostering greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and confidence in navigating life’s challenges.

Many relationship difficulties are not just about what we say or do—they are often connected to deeper patterns of how we learned to seek connection, protect ourselves, and respond to our emotional needs.

I help clients explore their attachment patterns and relationship behaviours, including struggles with expressing emotions, fear of rejection, people-pleasing, difficulty trusting, or feeling disconnected from themselves and others.

Together, we look beyond the surface behaviours to understand the underlying wounds, fears, and needs that shape these patterns. With greater awareness and self-compassion, clients can begin to respond differently, make intentional choices, and create relationships that feel safer, healthier, and more aligned with who they truly are.

I understand that childhood trauma often shapes emotional patterns, beliefs, and coping strategies that were once necessary for survival. Rather than viewing these patterns as weaknesses or flaws, I help clients explore the connection between their current struggles and the experiences that shaped them.

I support clients in developing a greater sense of safety within themselves, processing difficult emotions, and reconnecting with the parts of themselves that may have been disconnected or hidden over time.

With compassion, curiosity, and a trauma-informed approach, we gently revisit painful experiences while creating space for new understanding, self-compassion, and healing. Together, we work toward recognizing the strengths and resilience that may have been overshadowed by past experiences.

Outside of counselling, I enjoy spending time in nature, snowboarding, playing basketball, and travelling. Being outdoors allows me to reconnect with the present moment and appreciate the simplicity of life.

I also have a personal mindfulness practice inspired by Buddhist teachings, which has helped me cultivate greater acceptance, compassion, and inner peace while navigating the uncertainties and changes that life brings.

Beyond my clinical work, I enjoy writing about psychology and emotional wellbeing, creating educational content that helps make counselling concepts more approachable and meaningful in everyday life.
